I lucked out, getting pillows and mattress pads!  It’s simple; if you  like the pillow, it’s a good pillow!  Well maybe it’s not that simple,  but it’s close.  My thoughts are below.

Content / Down:

Many customers love down, what’s not to love?  It’s soft, it cradles  your head, it fluffs back up.  We maintain very close relationships  with the down pillow manufacturers to make 100% sure that every pillow  meets or exceeds the statements made on all of the tags.  In  most cases we get our down pillows from the same people that we get our  down comforters from.   One thing about down, as the pillow ages the  weight of your head will crush the down plumules and ultimately flatten  your pillow.  My advice is to get a high loft pillow like our best, The Mirage Pillow it is literally bursting with 800 fill power down.  You’ll sleep like a baby.  (If you want to learn more about down see: Help with Down Comforters.)

Content - Down & Feather:

Some people like the idea of down but want a firmer pillow.  Feathers do not flatten like down does.  The down plumule is a round shape with thousands of filaments while feathers are flat with a “spine” from top to bottom.  Our Sandwich Pillow is your answer!  It’s a center core pillow of feathers “sandwiched” between a top and bottom layer of down.  Your head is cuddled with down while the feather center keeps the pillow firm.

Content - Synthetic:

Synthetic pillows like the Encore Pillow have a firm synthetic fill while the Primaloft Pillow is filled with a synthetic down filling making it soft and “foldable”.  Synthetic pillows are great if you need to wash the pillow.  They also are great for decorative pillows.  I sleep on a down pillow but use a synthetic square pillow to lounge on.

Pillow Sizes:

Pillows come in a number of sizes and, of course, we can custom make pillows to any size or shape that you want.  Standard size is 20X26 inches, Queen size is 20X30 inches (made so that two will fit side by side on a queen bed which is 60 inches wide) and king size 20X36 (made so that two will fit side by side on a king bed which is 78 inches wide).  Now for the FUN sizes which look great, accent your bed and are good for lounging (and throwing).  European size is 26X26 inches (great for reading, watching TV).  Boudoir or baby size is 12X16 inches (great for under your neck or back …or for throwing).  Don’t forget Neckroll size.

Pillow Protectors:

It’s simple; every pillow should have a pillow protector, they are soft and inexpensive.  More importantly they protect your pillow from face medications, makeup, etc.

Care:

We do not recommend washing down products but if you must, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.  If you use acne or other medications or makeup or makeup remover we recommend that your sleeping pillow be covered with a soft Damask Pillow Protector and that’s all.  Do not allow any of these products to contact your fine bed pillow cases or shams or your pillow itself.  Many times they cause spotting or staining.

Mattress Pads:

You spend a lot of money for a mattress and box spring; you’ve got to protect it!  I recommend that you use a Mattress Cover and a Box Spring cover and also a good mattress pad.  I like the Delux Mattress Pad, it’s all cotton and nice and padded.  It’s one of the few pads that comes with either a 14” or 20” pocket so you don’t have to get more than you need.  If you have kids, pets, like to eat in bed or just want to have peace of mind put a Waterproof Mattress Pad under the regular mattress pad.  You will not feel it under the pad but you’ll be glad it’s there when your dog knocks over the margarita that you had perched on the bed.  (I know from experience.)

Featherbeds:

Featherbeds are like mattress pads filled with feathers.  (Ours come with covers which is important to protect them.)  Feather bedThey are available in various fills which translate into different heights.  Your bed will look fabulous with a feather bed; so big and fluffy that you just want to take off on a fast run and jump right in.  There is also a synthetic featherbed called Allusion.
